Large Birds Nest Fern Kokedama
Birds Nest Fern Kokedamas (aka Asplenium, Crows Nest Fern) is the ideal houseplant to create a tropical haven. It's such a beautiful indoor plant to own & fairly easy care. These larger size kokedamas are approximately around the size of a soccer ball.
Typically Birds Nest Ferns will prefer a little indirect sunlight or shaded areas in your surrounds. As they are a tropical plant, they love humidity & are also perfect in Kokedamas as they will prefer watering method of soaking.
I generally aim to source a few different varities of Birds Nest Ferns to make into kokedamas (Crispy Wave, Asplenium Crissie, Norfolk Gem, Curly Fern or Asplenium), but plant stock is very much dependant on availability from growers.
Birds Nest Ferns are non-toxic, which makes them perfectly safe to have around your fur babies and family. They are also listed in the Top 5 air purifying plants, so what's not to love about them.
PRODUCT INFO
Kokedama Birds Nest Fern plant size will vary (due to availability of plant stock). Each living art creation is unique, but will look very similar to the Kokedamas pictured in this product catalogue.
The actual Birds Nest Fern plant can be approx 40-50 cm in height from the top of Kokedama and leaves can stem around 50-60 cm in width. The Kokedama ball size for this product will be around the size of a soccer ball. All Kokedamas are made using combination of sphagnum moss, peat moss, soil, bark and twine.
Basic Care:
Due to kokedamas being moss based, the plant root system will absorb the moisture they need to grow from the kokedama ball. When the Kokedama ball becomes light in weight, the plant will generally need watering.
- Most of the time kokedamas will need a soak once every 2 weeks, generally weekly in summer and watering can be less frequent in winter.
- To water your Kokedama, they require a 10 minute soak with approx 5 cm of water, using a sink or bowl.
- After soaking the plant you will notice it is heavier in weight, due to the water absorbed.
- Kokedamas also like air flow, so recommend a stand to allow good air flow or hanging your kokedama.
